The cycloconverter implements phase control of input voltage directly with thyristors and filters it with an output capacitor, outputting a sine wave. The cycloconverter's output waveform distortion is a bit worse than a waveform inverter's. However, because the cycloconverter's CPU phase-controls the 3-phase current wave from the AC generator, the cycloconverter outputs a quality sinusoidal waveform for a low cost.
